Good Laptops

It is true that there are several good cheap laptops available on the market today but choosing the right one for you and your needs is often the point which can wind up either costing you or saving you money in the end.

The features which you choose will ultimately contribute to the final price tag of the laptop so it is a good idea to focus on only the features which you need. For example if you are you interested in full size laptops under 200 or maybe a specific feature set then at least you can begin to narrow down your options starting at that point.

Various manufactures will have rather similar features which they offer on their good cheap laptops because ultimately the technology which you find on most laptops is the result of the combination of features which each particular model has to offer.

Say you want a good laptop with a 10.1 inch screen and you want to be able to choose from several different colors. In this case you may find that the Acer Aspire One netbook has these features which you are looking for and that the price is not too bad either. These are good laptops but you should be aware of a few things about these.

One thing that is very important to keep in mind is that these mini laptops will not come with an optical drive installed in them. The reason for this is that the laptops are so small that there simply is not enough room for the manufacturer to put an optical drive in the computer at all. This has been a shock for some people who have bought these and although they are good cheap laptops they wish they would have paid attention to this fact before they bought the computer.

If you are not completely sure about what an optical drive is then just remember that it is the drive which is what reads optical discs. Optical disks are simply compact discs (CDs) and digital video discs (DVDs). If there is no optical drive in a laptop computer then obviously you will not be able to use any CDs or DVDs.

However there is good news if you really like the laptops color and the other features it offers as well as the price tag it carries because for an additional expense you can purchase an external optical drive. Since this is an add-on feature it will cost a bit more money and there are a few things to keep in mind about these as well before you decide to buy one.

The optional external optical drive is going to be roughly the size of a typical laptop optical drive yet it will be in its own external enclosure. These are certainly good and they will perform just as well as you would expect any good laptop to but they do create additional bulk. For example when you rely upon an external device then you also have the added burden of having to carry it along with you wherever you go. If your laptop usually remains in one stationary location then keep in mind that you will have to make room for the additional external optical drive as well. These are fairly small but in tight spaces this is something which you should not overlook.

In general these really do make good cheap laptops and they really are quite popular. But it is unfortunate how many times I have seen where the customer has bought one only to realize at a latter date that in order for it to do what they had pictured the laptop doing they would have to go out and buy an additional piece of hardware. Obviously this will ultimately add to the cost of the laptop meaning that they may have found a better deal on a portable computer which actually had all of the features they wanted in the first place.
